 Mountain that overlooks Benidorm.

Navarre Plain

Snow capped high plains of Navarre Plain looking towards Pamplona on main road, I was travelling in that direction to Pamplona.

Navarre Plain

Obvious that this part of Spain has quite a high snow fall  annually by the fact that the road has the red and yellow marker poles by the side of the road.

Spain

Navarre Plain snowing

One of the numerous road tunnels in Spain, people who have not driven around Spanish interior country side probably do not realise how Spain has numerous mountain areas. At least before I started to drive around in the country in a motorhome I had preconceived idea that Spain was fairly flat and sunny.

Navarre Plain

More lovely scenic views wrong time of year. Want to go back here when weather better sometime.

Navarre Plain

Moutain pass on the plain a lot of beautiful scenic countryside unfortunately  travelled through there wrong time of year.

Almaden Mercury Mine Museum

Early type Mercury processing Plant

After mining the Mercury laden ore from deep in the mine it is baked to make the liquid Mercury oose out of the rock. This picture is of reconstruction of original process set up before modern methods were introduced. The way this works the ore is heated in the chambers each side and the Mercury liquid runs down terracotta pipes into middle collection channel.

Mine train

You start at where there is a lift to go underground at the end of the tour underground you get in this little mine workers train. The train rattles along at quite fast speed through the mine at end of tour.

Modern process ovens at the rear of these.

Original old winding tower

Modern electric lift type nearby, this old one was steam engine driven, same as coal mines in England.

Rio Tinto Mining

It leaches under ground from quarries behind nearby, the brown yellow and blue staining is from the minerals that are mined here. This staining deposits is in the river all the way to Huelva 40 miles away on the coast. These mines and quarries were mined by the Romans, artefacts of the Romans that have been found can be seen in Rio Tinto mining Museum.
